  • What is the purpose in life?

    Was clearing my emails & i guess not many really spend time now to read or forward meaningful emails. Only a handful and i do appreciate those who did and glad i stop to give some a read.

    I was reading one which i've forward to many. Cos it made me pause and ponder. It's an email about God.

    Though i'm a buddhist, i respect all religions and that email did hit a chord in me.

    I'm sure many had ask yourself many times why you're on this earth for?
    Is it to fulfill a to-do list that u're thrown to do on earth?
    Or is discovering who you are(developing as a person) more important than what you do?

    "What gain is it for anyone to win the whole world and forfeit his soul? (Matthew 16:26)"

    There's something i wish to share with everyone. I read it somewhere and it's stuck to me ever since. i'll throw myself this question when a big decision i have to make arise when i'm stuck :" If u live each day as if it were your last... will u still make this decision?"
    Only when you're near death,when u're thrown to your brink, exposed, what matters to you most will remain.

  • Happy Songkran! Sawatdii Pii Mai:)

    Want to know a little bit more about Songkran? And the difference to our Chinese New Year?
    ==============================================================
    Songkran is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran festival on April 13 is Maha Songkran Day or the day to mark the end of the old year, April 14 is Wan Nao which is the day after and April 15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok which the New Year begins. At this time, people from the rural areas who are working in the city usually return home to celebrate the festival. Thus, when the time come, Bangkok temporarily turns into a deserted city.

    Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

    The Songkran tradition is recognized as a valuable custom for the Thai community, society and religions. The value for family is to provide the opportunity for family members to gather in order to express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents and to present them gifts including making merits to dedicate the result to their ancestors. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity.

    In the afternoon, after performing a bathing rite for Buddha images and the monks, the celebrants both young and old, joyfully splash water oon each other. The most-talked about celebration takes place in the northern province of Chiang Mai where Songkran is celebrated from April 13 to 15. During this period, people from all parts of the country flock there to enjoy the water festival, to watch the Miss Songkran Contest and the beautiful parades.

    ========================================================
    Songkran seems to be very much alive in chiangmai.
    April 12 is Wan Sungkharn Lohng. This is a day for house cleaning and general preparation for the New Year. In the evening it is traditional for Thais to dress up as a signal of the coming new year.
    In Chiangmai, the Songkran procession is held on this day. This is a parade through Chiangmai comprised of Buddha images and attendants on floats, which are accompanied by minstrels and the town's people. The procession begins at Nawarat Bridge on the Mae Ping River and moves the Thapae Gate before approaching its final destination of Wat Prasingh.

    April 13 is Wan Nao. On this day people prepare cooked meals and preserved food for the Buddhist merit-making that takes place on the following day.
    Activities at Wat Prasingh continue on this day and in the evening local residents go to the banks of the Mae Ping River and gather sand to be deposited in piles topped by flowers in the temples. This practice is the ancient "raising the temple grounds" ritual which was necessary in the old days because then Thai New Year was held at the end of the rainy season in the first month of the old Thai Lunar Calendar.

    April 14 is Wan Payawan. On this day a grand new year begins with early morning merit-making at the temples. Preserved and cooked foods, fresh fruit, monks' robes and other offerings are made at the temples. In the home, people do the final cleaning of Buddha images using scented water.
    Traditionally this is the day that the pouring of water begins. It was once the practice to pour gently, but the fun-loving Thais have transposed this into a relative water free-for-all.

    April 15 is Wan Parg-bpee. On this day homage is paid to ancestors, elders and other persons deserving respect because of age of position. This is called 'Rohd Nam Songkran', meaning 'The Pouring of Songkran Water', and the water is sprinkled on the elder persons while uttering wishes of good luck and a happy future.
    In Chiangmai, this is the final day of the celebration and the day on which people have built up to a crescendo of water throwing. It is the day when all family and religious obligations have been completed and the people are totally dedicated to "Sanook...Sanook."

  • Crazy little thing called love...

    Do u love with your heart or with your mind?

    My friend wrote me a letter and yes, some people just love more using one more than the other.

    The perfect situation is able to love with your heart but we don't live in a perfect world. We live in a world where everyone has to take responsibilities in their life, their decisions. Love is blind yes, when u allow your heart to rule over your mind till there's no logic at all that u even lost yourself. But it's a beautiful feeling such that many allow themselves to be lost in that beautiful fairytale world.

    People in the past do not even have a choice, cos women are match-make even when they're babies perhaps. Yes we're entering into a new generation where women are more educated and have more voice in this world. But sadly, the issue of match-making and choice of life partners do not lie in their hands for some. The recent Straits' Times did a wonderful article on a few women of different races, an indian and a sikh girl who respected their parents decision. And took a gumble with who they'll be with the rest of their lives.

    Do Men and Women love the same way? i believe not. Each gender has their own responsibilities before and after marriage and hence, their choice of life partners will follow perhaps. With this in mind, sometimes we do have to use our mind to love as well. Especially for women who's intending to form a family, tend to find a stable nice caretaker for her offsprings next time, u have to find someone u feel secure who can protect and care for you and your child both financially & emotionally the next life. For this, women can't just love by heart, sometimes she have to love using their mind as well. For herself, for her child next time. If u know the direction i'm heading.

    It's really so hard to be a mother. It takes so much that more an more women either choose not to have babies of have 1child. And perhaps the reason why more women (some of my friend as well) choose to remain single, cos u rather trust yourself with taking care of your life than handing your life over to another and risk of getting into a nightmare. It's a gumble of trust u put to the men u choose. He can either give u happiness and forever care, or he can put u through a bumpy ride or betrayal that women are usually brought to face in tears.

    Love can conquer everything?Everything? Perhaps that is only in Drama serials, in a marriage shared life, u need more than pure love to sustain it in the long run to put everything together through the long road ahead.

    So, Do u love more with your heart or your mind?
    Sorry to be pessimistic, the joy of love is wonderful but the buckets of tears over-rules so much more usually...
    I applaud all married couples...to have the guts to take the leap of faith.
