Path to durian trees
The path to durian trees:)

yeah, it's the time of the year again for durians in season. I was curious about durian trees actually growing & tasting well in Singapore. So far the durians i saw selling in durian stalls in Singapore streets are either from Malaysia or Thailand. Thailand durians were just too hard & Singaporeans love softer durians, usually Malaysia ones. hmm well Lee told me it's because in Thailand, durians have to be 'harvested' early even if they're on the trees before they're riped. This is to allow time for transportation to other countries or other places further away to be sold. So they ended up feeling harder. The taste & smell isn't as rich as a result. But thai people love hard durians..they find the ones we eat too soft for their liking.

It all started 2 weeks ago when my uncle went to pick durians at some place & picked quite a few, he gave us some to try & they actually tasted quite good. So last sunday, my brother & parents went to pick on their own to pick our own durians to eat:p woah, they picked quite a lot. Ate some much & i've been eating durians practically like everyday haha.

This 2days are my rest days. So yesterday, i asked mum if i can go & pick durians. I wanted to see durian trees in Singapore. So early the following morning, Dad drove me to the place. It was still dark so i can't really even see the ground, so u can imagine, how on earth i'm going to spot any durians. It was drizzling then, we walked with umbrellas for shelter & protection from any likely falling durians haha. i know, i know, Lee was laughing at me how umbrellas are able to protect our heads if ever they fell haha. Well at least the durians will roll off our umbrellas if they fell, mum said keke.

Initially cos it's still dark with dark clouds, i really can't see anything. Dad only had a small touch which is only enough to see our path in front. When we finally reached the spot, we saw many others, their touch lights are so powerful lor:( Some already on their way out with big bags of durians. I was like, wow, can pick so many. I also want as much. Was quite positive until me and dad were still empty handed for the first 15min of walking. Another person gave us a few small ones he happen to find (well, may not be good ones). I realised durians can't be found if we stayed on the walking path, have to walk inside. So i started to stare up the durian trees, see where the durians were and try to walk in. We then began to find a few. But it isnt' as many as i expect. But still, we managed to get more than 10durians. haha, i just treat it as leisure, when i found one, i'm happy, and said " i found one!" But for others who went there, they were quite serious cos they were actually picking to sell. We met one who asked us to go back down, not to enter his 'territory'.

Mum & dad went back in the afternoon hoping to pick more so that can give to some of my aunties but sadly, she couldn't find that afternoon. I think durians season is ending soon. Last week they dropped a lot, this week slowed down already.

U know, durians in Singapore are sold at such a high price that easily, u can chalk up more than hundred dollars on a few durians. It's that crazy. I told my mum next time don't need to buy durians anymore, we can just pick & save hundreds of dollars already haha! All of us love durians & many Singaporeans love durians too:) More & more food stalls are setting up selling exclusive durians pastries & cakes etc. There is the market here.
